How to Prevent Mental Illness in Teen



Mental illness is bad enough yet it can be enduring when it occurs. Not only that, it can sometimes be very destructive to the sufferer and the family and of course to the society at large. Yet, considerable forms of mental illness are preventable. In some cases, mental illness results from our own actions or actions of those around us. With these, how can you avoid falling into mental illness as a teen?

a)      Drugs: Despite the vogue, avoid illegal drugs/substances. Simply say no to cannabis and the like such as ecstasy etc. While, most users may not fall ill, you may be the unfortunate one to become unwell. Misuse of alcohol can lead to mental illness! Avoid it.

b)      Avoid being under undue pressure: If you find your self in very pressuring environment, bail out as soon as possible. You be become ill. During exams, do rest a lot. If you travel out, rest well when you can. Strange environment can cause you to lose control.

c)      Sleep: Good sleep produces good work. Good sleep is good health.You need quality 8hours a day to function well.

d)      Eat well, play well. Exercise can improve your health. Do it often but in moderation.

e)      Take decisions you will not regret: Bad decisions can lead to depression and anxiety. Ask questions; be thoughtful before you decide on certain issues. If you get involve in matters that you can not deal with, seek help now!

f)        Sexual health and physical health matters: Get treatment as soon as you are concerned about anything going wrong in you.

g)      Relationships: Few things can affect your mental health more than the relationships around you. Parents can bully or put you under pressure. Try and negotiate without being rude. Failed girlfriend or boyfriend relationships can lead to isolation, depression, and suicide. It is pointless. You need to manage your relationships well. Human beings can disappoint a lot. If you know this, the pain will be less when the disappointment comes.

  Loss of valuable and death in the family or of friends: Death is inevitable. Most often it can not be helped. The pain of death may be very difficult to accept. However, avoid undue guilt feelings when death comes. Let the dead rest in peace and you should gain strength and return to normality as soon as you have grieved, which is seriously encouraged. Short of this, you may become ill mentally from depression.

i)        Failure: Reinvent your self as soon as you have a disappointment or failure. Do not dwell in it. Otherwise, you may have regret, depression, and anxieties.

j)        Keep the law: If you break the law, you may be sent into prison and acquire criminal record. Being confined in prison, you may become mentally ill from depression and fear. Bad gangs can land you in trouble.
